Studiopepe, Les Arcanistes 2019
Studiopepe, having taken over an expansive industrial site – formerly a gold manufacturing facility dating back to the 1900s – envisioned a journey through design pieces, bespoke items, vintage collectibles, and artworks that unfolded in installation rooms, wherein the connection between matter, archetypes, and the power of symbols was explored through the very study of “Arcana” and of the work of “Arcanists”.
From the courts of the Renaissance to the psychoanalytic theory of C. G. Jung, divination practices, forever poised between the rational and the irrational, have evolved into increasingly complex rituals over the centuries.
“ On the one hand, the interpretation of the “Arcana” has served as a tool for personal growth, achieved through the study of the archetypes embodied by the tarot cards. As for the “Arcanists,” these were ante-litteram chemists, who possessed arcane and secret knowledge of formulas enabling the creation of porcelain and materials such as glass and metals. ”
