Galerie Philia, Origo
For the collective exhibition De-sacralized, presented by Galerie Philia during Salone del Mobile, the studio designed a coffee table.
Origo concieved as small architecture, boasting six facets and symbolizing spiritual balance, draws inspiration from ancient Italian baptistries, which often feature octagonal or hexagonal plans. The polished and refined facets transition to a more rugged and uneven texture on the top, serving as a clear allusion to Michelangelo’s ‘non finito’, a symbol of mankind’s eternal struggle to liberate the spirit from the constraints of matter, or, on a deeper level, to break free from the bonds of material trappings. Studiopepe decided to employ marble, a material ingrained in our design vocabulary, one with profound associations with sacred architecture and objects.
